Raising teenagers and avoiding debt:
It is very difficult to have teenagers, especially when they want the newest trendy fashion of coolest tech device. Between name brand clothes, computers, games, and mp3 players – it is no wonder that so many parents of teenagers are finding themselves in debt!
So, how do you break the habit of buying for your teen and avoid breaking the bank? It isn’t as hard as you might think. The first step is learning how to say, “No.” Parents will often buy things for their children out of guilt. Do you wish you had more time for your children? Are you trying to buy their love and respect? It is important to remember that even though you want to be your child’s friend – you have to be their parent first. Set boundaries, and let them know they won’t get everything they want. Not only will this help your debt, but it might bring you and your child a little bit closer, and it will certainly help your child get a better sense of financial responsibility at a young age.
